A THREE-year-old child is seriously ill in hospital after the car he was travelling in left the carriageway and went over an embankment in Daresbury.

Two men have been arrested for failing to stop at the scene of the crash on the A56 Chester Road, just off junction 11 of the M56.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “A black Suzuki Vitara left the carriageway to the near side and continued over an embankment. There were four adult occupants of the vehicle and a three-year-old child.”

The child suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Warrington Hospital where his condition is described as serious.

Following the collision, the driver of the car was seen making off on foot in the direction of Warrington.

A 24-year-old man from Risley in Warrington has been released on bail until March 14 pending further enquiries. A 26-year-old man, also from Warrington, has been released without charge.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place at 2.15pm on Sunday, to contact them on 01244 613928.
