FINGERS are crossed at a Chester-based finance group after staff heard their firm had been shortlisted for a national business award.

The Funding Corporation has beaten off lending institutions from across the UK to make the last stages of the Credit Today Awards.

Now the company's near-200 staff must wait until May 9 when the overall winners will be announced at a celebrity-hosted awards ceremony at London's Grosvenor House.

It is the third year in succession that The Funding Corporation has been shortlisted in the contest, joining other major UK finance finalists such as Barclays, Lloyds TSB and Virgin.

Award judges nominated the company for the 2013 ‘alternative lender’ of the year category, and also for the ‘responsible lender’ of the year category which it won two years ago.

Bosses and staff hope that Chester will soon be home to both awards for the coming 12 months.

The Funding Corporation, based on Chester Business Park, reached the finals after submitting its lending policies for scrutiny by a panel of independent judges from the finance sector.

Managing director David Challinor said: “The categories for which we have been selected are not about a company's size, but about the approach it takes to looking after customers and treating them fairly.”
