A FOOTBALL team has changed its colours to show support for charity.

Chester FC players George Horan and Matty McGinn – normally sporting blue – wore pink T-shirts to help promote Breast Cancer Care’s Pink Ribbonwalk at Cholmondeley Castle on June 9.

Team captain George Horan and one of the season’s top goal scorers, Matty McGinn, were only too happy to strip off and proudly don their new pink strips.

George said: “Pink isn’t our usual team colour but we are proud to show our support for the 50,000 people diagnosed with breast cancer every year.

“Almost everyone will know someone whose life has been affected by the disease in some way.

“You can go a step further to show your support and help raise some cash by signing up to take part in the Pink Ribbonwalk at Cholmondeley Castle.

“It’s a great day out and the money raised enables Breast Cancer Care to continue to provide free information, support and services to anyone affected by breast cancer.

“Our fans are always brilliant and have helped us fundraise for breast cancer before so please sign up and help make a difference.”

The team, which recently won the Northern Premier League Cup, has fundraised for breast cancer services before by holding a pink day last year to raise money for the breast cancer unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

This year members of staff from the club are planning to get a team together and participate in the 10 or 20-mile walk for Breast Cancer Care.

It costs just £30 to register to take part but walkers are required to raise a minimum of £175 worth of sponsorship to help fund Breast Cancer Care’s support services.
