A HOUSING chief executive John Denny pressed the cross-party panel on Question Time over the impact Government cuts will have on communities.

Question Time was in Liverpool, where Chester and District Housing Trust chief executive John Denny, who is also designate chief executive of Cosmopolitan Housing Group in Liverpool, pressed Housing Minister Grant Shapps and Labour’s Caroline Flint on national TV.

Cosmopolitan Housing Group has properties in Ellesmere Port and has recently launched a multi-million-pound 37 two-bedroomed eco-development in Westminster Road.

Mr Denny questioned the panel over the impact that paying housing benefit direct will have, not only in a welfare sense but how it might undermine the Government’s affordable rent building programme.

Speaking after the programme, Mr Denny said: “It’s one thing being the largest developer of affordable homes across Cheshire West with 1,058 new homes over the next three years but regeneration isn’t just about bricks and mortar for us.

“It’s about our customers, their lives, their aspirations and making sure that everyone is entitled to the best housing, the safest communities and above all can afford to live, enjoy life and prosper.

“We have a passion to fight for the rights and future prosperity of our generations. I will do everything in our power not to allow local residents to be faced with impossible future choices between paying rent, feeding the family and heating their home.

“That’s why we’ve committed £20m across Cheshire West to build new homes, invested £6m in green energy solutions and secured more than £1.4m extra benefits for our customers.

“It’s about working hand in hand with all our customers to weather this storm.”
