RESIDENTS are being sought to become a ‘Friend’ of Ellesmere Port Railway Station and help give it a much- needed facelift.

Cheshire West and Chester Council and Merseyrail are working together to find a group of people interested in brightening up the station and helping to make a difference to their community.

Central and Westminster councillor Derek Bateman said: “We welcome resident involvement to ‘brighten up’ the station.

“I urge local people to get involved in a venture which not only benefits the station but is also an opportunity to meet new friends and learn some new skills.

“Possible projects could include gardening and planting at the front of the station.”

Sally Ralston, corporate social responsibility manager at Merseyrail, said: “Merseyrail and Merseytravel believe that our stations are the gateways to our communities and our station volunteer groups help to deliver a cleaner, safer and more attractive environment to all rail passengers.

“We really appreciate the work that the station adopters and Friends do at their local stations and it would be excellent to have Ellesmere Port station adopted.

“These schemes and the station Friends bring creativity and colour to our stations.”
