IF CHESHIRE West and Chester Council has its £1.5m bid for a permanent Gypsy and Traveller site approved it will implement a full consultation period.

Executive Member for Prosperity Cllr Herbert Manley said: “It is absolutely essential we understand the issuesŠconcerning both our local residents and the local Gypsy and Traveller community.

“We want to know what others think too, such as the local Tenants Association, the local Police, local schools, the Fire Service, the local Doctor’s surgery, other health professionals.

“Therefore, we have made extensive plans to consult with everyone concerned and we will listen to all views.”

Consultation plans would include dedicated events for residents to attend where the council will share information and listen to views.

There would also be special web pages created to share ideas and provide opportunities for people to send their comments online.

Cllr Manley said: “For those who cannot attend any of our meetings or don’t use the internet, we will produce leaflets that will be widely available so everyone has the opportunity to find out more and let us know what they think.

“Before we roll out our consultation plans, we are waiting to hear whether or not we can obtain government funding for the possible Gypsy and Traveller site.

“There is little point in consulting with people about something that may not happen.

“As soon as we know the outcome of the bid, we will widely publicise opportunities for people to have their say.”
