RESIDENTS who want to meet representatives of one of the two companies bidding to win an £850m contract to manage Cheshire’s waste can have their say next week.
Cheshire West and Chester and Cheshire East councils are seeking an alternative sustainable waste treatment for residual household waste and two waste options have been shortlisted as part of a competitive tendering process.
Viridor is proposing a new waste treatment plant on part of the former ICI chlorine plant at Lostock works off Griffiths Road.
The company proposes a mechanical biological treatment facility which converts non-recyclable material into a solid recovered fuel for a specially designed power station at Weston Point, Runcorn – a facility that already has planning permission and would provide power for Cheshire’s chemical industry.
The other bidder, Resource Recovery Solutions (RRS), has announced plans to develop a waste treatment plant at New Cheshire Business Park on Wincham Lane, Wincham.
A public meeting will be held tomorrow, July 16, at 7pm at Northwich Memorial Hall where residents will have a chance to meet representatives of Viridor.
