INTERNET users can now watch video highlights of important council meetings on YouTube after Cheshire West and Chester launched its own channel.

The site is aimed at people who may be more likely to visit the popular video website than attend the meetings in person.

Julia Thorley-Morse of Cheshire West and Chester (CWaC) said: “The aim is to promote services and events provided by the council to a whole new audience who may be more likely to visit YouTube than the authority’s own site. It is just one of the ways the council is looking at promoting its services and events to people of all ages.”

YouTube is a resource site where you can host, tag and share videos and it is the leading destination worldwide on the internet for video.

CWaC leader Cllr Mike Jones, said: “We are one of the first new authorities to openly embrace this use of new media and it is something we will expand to provide information and services to people in a way they feel most able to access it.

“We will be adding regular updates and videos including latest news, interviews and even fly-trough tours of regeneration proposals for our towns, giving you more access than ever to your council.”
