CHESHIRE West and Chester Council has launched its own YouTube channel.

The aim is to promote its services and events to a whole new audience who are more likely to visit YouTube than the authority’s own site.

YouTube is a resource site where contributors can host, tag and share videos, and is the leading destination worldwide on the internet for video. It is just one of the ways the council is looking at promoting its services and events to people of all ages.

Council leader, Cllr Mike Jones, said: “We are one of the first new authorities to openly embrace this use of new media and it is something we will expand to provide information and services to people in a way they feel most able to access it.”

So far, the Cheshire West and Chester YouTube channel features welcome videos from each ward and highlights of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee meetings and open forums.

Cllr Jones added: “We will be adding regular updates and videos including latest news, interviews and even fly-through tours of regeneration proposals for our towns, giving you more access than ever to your council.”
