YOUNGSTERS in Winsford can try out fishing thanks to a programme from Cheshire Constabulary and its partner agencies.

Officers from the Winsford Neighbourhood Policing Unit are working with Connexions, the Environment Agency, Cheshire West and Chester Council and Winsford Anglers Association to provide fishing coaching for 11-16-year-olds over the summer.

Winsford Fishing Festival will run throughout July and August at Winsford National Pool, off Weaver Valley Road.

The first induction session will be held on Wednesday, July 22 between 10am-3pm for beginners. After that, group and team days will be held on Wednesdays July 29 and August 12, 20 and 27 between 10am-3pm.

PCSO Jacqueline Tudor said: “This is a great opportunity for young people to learn a new skill and try something they may not have done before. The coaches are kindly giving up their time to pass on their expertise.

“It is also a chance for us to develop good relationships between the police and young people in the area.”
