THREE charities were 'wheelie' pleased when the mayor of Wrexham presented them with cheques.

Wrexham PHAB, the Gurkha Welfare Trust and Downs Way Forward, represented by Ysgol Rhosddu, each received £1,060.

The money was raised when members of Wrexham PHAB - a club designed to bring together people with and without disabilities on an equal basis to participate in social activities within the club and outside in the community - took part in the Gurkha Welfare Trust's Wheelchair Push around Britain.

The event encouraged people to take part to raise money for disabled charities and also the Gurkha Welfare Trust, which provides financial assistance to retired Gurkha and their families who have fought for Britain in various conflicts.

The two-day 15-mile push through Hale to Aintree on the Trans-Pennine Trail in November was where the money was raised by PHAB.
