PIGEON racers have helped fund a vital transport service for people with mobility problems.

The Royal Racing Pigeon Association's western region has given Wrexham transport provider Chariotts a donation of £1,000.

'Each year the Royal Racing Pigeon Association holds its Show of the Year in Blackpool and charities can apply for a donation from the Association charity fund,' said Chariotts chairman George Greenshields.

'We applied and this year were lucky to be picked as a recipient.'

Chariotts is a group of volunteer drivers who use their own vehicles and the charity's own buses to ferry people around to the shops and do other driving tasks many people take for granted.

'All our drivers are volunteers but as a result we don't expect them to incur any costs for the work they do either,' said George.

'The £1,000 we received from the Royal Racing Pigeon Association will fund six or seven drivers for a year.'
