A ROCK ’n’ roll charity night raised more than £1,000 for good causes.

The event, held at Whitby Sports & Social Club, was jointly in aid of the Red Cross, to fund relief efforts in Burma following the cyclone disaster in May, and DICE in Ellesmere Port.

Organised by borough councillors Mike McCusker and John Wilson, with help from Tommy and Angela Hughes, more than 200 people attended to hear good music from The Mojos, Four Originals, and The Huytones.

Cllr McCusker has since handed £777 of the total raised to Alexia Fairclough of the Red Cross, and has another £400 for DICE.

He said: “The evening was first-rate.

“The bands gave their time for free and it’s great so many people came out to support us. I thank everyone who helped us in any way.”

Mr and Mrs Hughes said that without Cllr McCusker the event would not have got off the ground. They also thanked club staff, people who donated raffle prizes and everyone who attended.
