MAJOR changes to Wrexham’s bin collection service start from Monday.

They mean up to 60% of households will have their bin collected on a different day.

The council says the changes are necessary to improve efficiency and meet the demands of new housing developments across the county borough.

Existing rounds are operating at maximum capacity with little room for expansion.

By maximising the efficiency of the rounds, the council says it can reduce the overall mileage covered each day, saving 1,000 miles a fortnight and reducing the authority’s carbon footprint.

Households should have received, or will soon receive, their new bin stickers and calendars in an envelope which is clearly marked “important about your bin collection” and Wrexham council is reminding residents to check whether or not their bin collection day has changed.

To ensure a smooth changeover all households are asked to put out their general waste (blue or black bin) along with their recycling boxes and bags during the week of August 4 by 7.30am as there may be changes to the times your bin is collected.

The following week’s collection will be as shown on the new calendar.

Cllr David Bithell, lead member for Environment and Transport, said: “These are important and necessary changes that will provide an improved and efficient service to residents.”

John Bradbury, chief environment officer, added: “We ask residents to bear with us during this changeover period and thank them for their patience in advance.

“Should you experience any difficulties with your new collections then please contact the Pride in your Streets number on 01978 298989.

“We are expecting a high number of calls so you may find it easier to get through during the afternoons.”
