A CHANGE of use was agreed from retail to financial and professional services at vacant premises in the centre of Neston.

The application was put forward at 9A The Cross, a vacant camera shop, by Andrew Smith.

Planning officers at Cheshire West and Chester Council were told the premises had been vacant since June 2008.

The proposed hours were 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 4.30pm on Saturday and 10am to 2pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

Neston Town Council suggested the move would be prejudicial to the retail wellbeing of the town centre.

No objections were raised by conservation officers.

Wirral-based estate agents Clive Watkin said there had been very little interest in the premises for retail purposes as they were too small. The only offer which had been received was that from Mr Smith.

Planners suggested the change of use would be acceptable as the re-use of the vacant shop would enhance the vitality and viability of the town centre.

The change of use was recommended for approval and the borough council agreed the application could have permission.
