PEOPLE across Cheshire West and Chester are invited to nominate inspiring individuals from across the borough to carry the Paralympic Flame in August.

To celebrate its arrival, a Paralympic Flame Relay involving 10-20 people will take place on Saturday, August 25, from Sainsbury’s at Cheshire Oaks to the Epic Leisure Centre in Ellesmere Port.

It will continue to West Cheshire College’s campus on Sutton Way for a celebration event to mark the occasion.

Cllr Stuart Parker, executive member for culture and recreation, said: “It is an honour to have the Paralympic Flame come to Ellesmere Port and we want as many local people as possible to be involved.

“The Flame Relay is a great opportunity for us all to recognise inspirational people who have made a real difference to their community or overcome life obstacles.”

Sara Mogel, principal at West Cheshire College, which will host the main Flame celebration event from 1pm on August 25, said: “We are delighted that Ellesmere Port is hosting a Flame celebration and feel very proud that the college has been chosen as the venue for the main event.

“To organise a Flame Relay is a very special occasion and the chance for individuals to be involved in an event which recognises inclusivity, endeavour and achievement.”

Nominations to carry the Paralympic Flame are open until this Sunday and forms can be requested by emailing pr@west-cheshire.ac.uk.

Ellesmere Port is one of only four areas in the North West to host a Paralympic Flame celebration. Other events will be held in Manchester, Preston and Knowsley, with each of the events showcasing and celebrating Paralympic sports and cultural activity.
