AUDITIONS for bands wanting to perform at next May’s Winsford Festival will be held over the next two weeks.
Co-founder and organiser Steve Smith is already working on how to top last year’s 10th anniversary festival.
The administrative splitting of Cheshire means – for the first time in five years – the festival has no guaranteed funding, but the Brighton Belle pub on Middlewich Road is lending a helping hand.
“They’re very kindly letting us put on a fundraising event on New Year’s Eve, when all the acts who are lucky enough to be chosen to play at the festival will be asked to perform,” said Steve.
“All the money taken on the door will go towards putting the festival on.
“We feel like we’ve got a duty to the people of Winsford to keep it going now. People have come to expect it and we can’t let them down.”
Because the organisers have no guaranteed funding, the festival is likely to revert to one stage in 2009.
Auditions will take place at the Brighton Belle from 7-9pm on Tuesday, October 28 and Thursday, November 6.
“There will only be a limited amount of slots available this time,” said Steve. “So the bands will be selected by an independent panel.”
