THE chairman of the Board of Trustees at Nightingale House Hospice has spoken of the value of community fundraisers.

Norman Land was speaking at a fundraising event run by the Mold and Buckley Lions.

He said: “Without the generosity of people living in the communities we serve we could not provide for palliative care services which are needed in our local area.”

Over the last few years, Mold and Buckley Lions have raised thousands of pounds for local charities and always support Nightingale House Hospice.

This year the organisation raised £1,000 for the hospice, which helped toward the £2.5m it needs each year to provide services to people with life-limiting conditions.

Mr Land added: “Nightingale House is fortunate strong community groups such as the Mold and Buckley Lions continue to support our efforts as well as the thousands of volunteers who work to help us raise money for the hospice.

“However, we are aware there are some unscrupulous people who use reputable charities such as Nightingale House Hospice fraudulently and illegally.”

Nightingale House Hospice is a registered charity and follows strict codes of practice.

The Charity does not operate “door-to-door” collections for money or sell items or raffle tickets on people’s doorsteps.

All representatives from the charity have identification.

Mr Land added: “If you are approached by people who ask for money for charity, whether for Nightingale House or others, please make sure you check they are carrying appropriate identification with them, if you are in any doubt about their credentials then our advice is to report them to the police immediately.”
