THE RSPCA are appealing for information after a beloved cat was shot with an air rifle gun in Ellesmere Port.

Twelve-year-old Felix’s owner was devastated after the cat had to be put down due to severe injuries resulting from a gun pellet being lodged in her spine.

Felix, who was mainly a house cat and only went outside occasionally, was believed to have been shot on Abbey Court last Tuesday

When she was taken to the vets, it was initially thought Felix had been hit by a car but closer inspection revealed the pellet, which had left her unable to stand or use her back legs.

For her own best interests, she was put to sleep shortly afterwards, leaving her family, of Eleanor Road, distraught.

RSPCA Inspector Leanne Cragg said: “They are all devastated about what happened to their much-loved cat who was one of the family. They believe there was a group of youths in the area creating havoc on Tuesday and her daughter heard a gunshot but as yet we have no other information.

“I would imagine though, that the cat must have been shot very close to Abbey Court car park area, where she was found by one of the residents, as her injuries were too serious for her to be able to move much.”

Leanne added: “The maximum penalties for causing a cat to suffer like this are 51 weeks in prison and fines of up to £20,000.

“I would love to catch the person who did this and get them to court to stop them and others from doing it again.”
