HELP is at hand for people caring for an ill or elderly friend or relative.

North East Wales Carers Information Service (NEWCIS) is guiding carers towards funding and support.

According to NEWCIS, many carers do not even realise that is what they are. There are an estimated 20,000 carers in Wrexham but most do not receive the benefit of support available to them because they see themselves as looking after their friend, relative or partner out of duty rather than being an official carer.

But their work saves the county millions each year and Carers in Wales could be missing out on as much as £42 million in unclaimed Carers Allowance alone.

NEWCIS has arranged a Carers Rights Day to highlight benefits for carers. The Carers Information Event will be held on Thursday, December 2, from 11am until 7pm at Capel y Groes, Bodhyfryd, Wrexham.

There will be representation from a range of organisations, including Welfare Rights, NEWCIS, Crossroads, and Care and Repair. Carers are welcome throughout the day and are welcome to bring a friend or relative. There will also be a buffet for carers to enjoy free of charge.

There is assistance available with any transport or care costs to enable carers to attend.
