A VITAL lifeline for cancer sufferers has been handed a last-minute reprieve thanks to a major cash injection.

The Widnes and Runcorn Cancer Support Group had faced a bleak future after it failed to secure much needed Lottery funding.

But now the centre, which serves an average of 1,500 sufferers each year, has secured a £23,000 boost from Halton and St Helens PCT which will guarantee its future for at least the next 12 months.

Widnes and Runcorn Cancer Support Group, based at 21-23 Alforde Street, Widnes, offers help support, complementary therapies and respite breaks to those with cancer, their carers and their families.

It runs three support groups - Bosom Buddies the Hugs Club and Hand-in-Hand.

The centre can be contacted on 0151 423 5730.
