DO YOU look after a relative or friend who, because of a disability, sensory impairment or long-term illness, could not manage without your help?

Perhaps you assist a parent to get washed and dressed, help a partner with their medication due to a mental health condition, provide care to your child due to their additional needs or do regular shopping and housework for an elderly neighbour.

If you do - you are a carer. Many carers see themselves as a husband or wife, mother or father, son or daughter or a good friend and do not recognise themselves as a carer.

Due to this lack of recognition, many carers are missing out on their rights to services both from the statutory and voluntary sector.

On Monday, June 5, from 6pm-8pm, the North East Wales Carers Information Service (Newcis) is holding an Open Evening at 9 Edison Court, Ellice Way, Wrexham Technology Park (near to the Ramada Hotel).

This is a chance for people to come along find out more and help to shape future Newcis services.

'This is a great opportunity for carers who wouldn't normally be able to attend a Newcis day-time session due to work or other commitments to come along and meet the staff at Newcis, find out what is available and give their views on future provision for carers,' said Carys Williams, Newcis manager.

'There will also be a chance for carers to collect their free Carers Information Pack.'

Refreshments will be available and people are welcome to bring the person they care for.

Newcis is also able to provide assistance with transport to the Open Evening. nFor information about NEWCIS, to get directions or to arrange transport, call Helen or Mary on 01978 310414.
