OUTLINE plans for up to 265 new homes and a 72-bed care home in the borough’s green belt have been withdrawn.

The application, made by Burford Delta at the Roften industrial site on Hooton Road, Hooton, which dates back to World War II, led to more than 200 objections and a petition with more than 100 signatures.

It included car parking, landscaping, children’s play and open space.

Separate plans involved the demolition of Hooton Village Memorial Hall on Waterworks Lane, which would have been replaced by a new community hall as part of the development.

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s strategic planning committee was recommended to approve both schemes but chairman Cllr Myles Hogg (Con) indicated the applications had been withdrawn.

Councillors were due to have heard there was the possibility a further 25 dwellings on a separate area of land fronting Hooton Road, which was in different ownership.

The landowner was said to be in favour of the development.

A report pointed out the site at present employs between 50 and 60 people although the proposed care home would provide up to 70 jobs.

Objectors raised 50 main issues while there were 16 letters in support.

It was argued the local population would increase by 1,000 and the development would be too large and out of keeping with the rural character of nearby villages.

Increased congestion and traffic would be detrimental to Willaston and Hooton, it was claimed and local roads and junctions would not be able to cope.

The main application was subject to almost 60 conditions and two legal agreements with approval being subject to the views of the Secretary of State.
