A WEAVERHAM man has died in hospital after suffering serious head injuries in a car crash.

The 58-year-old, who has not yet been named, had to be cut from his car, a green VW Passat, after it collided with a white Ford Transit van near Window Seal on Bradford Road, Winsford at 3.55pm on Thursday.

Staff at Leighton Hospital were immediately put on standby because of the severity of the injuries, and he died in the early hours of Saturday. He is likely to be named later this week, when a coroner opens an inquest.

The 37-year-old male driver of the van, who is from Winsford, suffered leg and hip injuries, including a suspected broken pelvis, and was treated at Leighton, where he remained when the Chronicle went to press on Tuesday.

A third male, a passenger in the van, suffered minor head injuries and was kept in overnight for observation.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact Northwich Specialist Investigation Unit on 01244 614270.
