A FIRE that destroyed nineteen cars at a garage in Ellesmere Port is being treated as arson.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the blaze at Childer Thornton Car Sales, Chester Road, in the early hours of Thursday (April 25).

Emergency services were called out by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service just after 4am and went to the scene where around the vehicles had been damaged as a result of the blaze. .

A joint investigation is now underway.

Detective Constable Allan Faddes from Ellesmere Port CID said: “Thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused by this fire but the outcome could have been much worse had it spread.

“Fire is so unpredictable and can quickly become out of control so it is fortunate that in this case we are only dealing with damage at the garage rather than people seriously injured.

“I would appeal to anyone that may have seen people acting suspiciously in the area, or have any information about the fire to call police so we can catch whoever is responsible for this reckless act.”
