Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Greenspace Team is looking for volunteers to help them look after footpaths in their local area.

The Footpath Warden Scheme will help to identify any issues along the 770 miles of public rights of way that criss-cross the borough.

Footpath Wardens will inspect local public rights of way, including footpaths and bridleways. The volunteering roles will suit people with a love of the great outdoors, who are passionate about keeping the network of paths maintained for everyone to enjoy.

Residents who sign up will receive full training and basic hand tools will be provided to help with minor maintenance along the paths, such as cutting back vegetation around stiles. Any issues found will be reported back to the Council’s Greenspace Team.

Councillor Mark Henesy, Cabinet Member for Environment and Community, said: “We’re lucky to have miles of footpaths and bridleways across West Cheshire for residents and visitors to explore and enjoy.

“By working together with our local communities we can ensure that the paths are maintained and accessible to as many people as possible.”
