MORE than 300 people have signed a petition demanding the resignation of Sandbach and Middlewich’s Conservative MP Lady Ann Winterton.
The campaign led by Labour’s Congleton parliamentary candidate Gary Poole has been gathering pace.
A further 200 people have joined an online group called “Get the Wintertons out” on the Facebook social networking website.
Mr Poole, a Prison Service worker, said: “Following our protests in Sandbach, Middlewich and Alsager and an on-going door knocking campaign, people in Congleton borough have made it clear that they are fundamentally decent people who feel badly let down by their MP.”
Lady Winterton, 66, and her husband Sir Nicholas, who is MP for Macclesfield, are embroiled in the national row over politicians’ expenses.
They were rapped by Tory leader David Cameron for claiming £165,000 of tax- payers’ money as rent on a flat in London they owned.
