THE classmates of five-year-old Ellie-Jo Ellesmere, who died from meningitis, have paid tribute to her by releasing pink balloons into the sky.

Pupils of Cambridge Road Primary School in Ellesmere Port were joined by 20 members of Ellie-Jo’s family.

The school wanted to thank Party Place in Whitby Road for supplying the balloons.

Ellie-Jo, of Ellesmere Port, died suddenly from the illness at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital on Friday, March 19.

A post-mortem examination established a strain of meningitis was present in her body. But it is not believed to have been the highly contagious form that would have sparked a public health warning from Western Cheshire Primary Care Trust.
