Caersws 2 Connah's Quay Nomads 1

A BRACE from Chris Venables, his second in the last minute, secured Welsh Premier survival for Caersws and dented Nomads' European aspirations.

Venables had been a livewire throughout, and capped a fine display when he broke onto a pass from Graham Evans in the box before slotting past Paul Smith despite offside appeals. Venables handed Caersws the lead on 34 minutes drilling home his 25-yard shot off the post.

The hosts had their chances with Andy Davies seeing a goalbound effort blocked, while Neil Mitchell also hit the post moments later.

At the other end Danny Jellicoe had a shot saved, Craig Hutchinson was off target while the visitors were also denied by a goal-line clearance close to half time.

Nomads had a good spell early in the second half, with Chris Williams and Adam Dickinson both going close, before levelling when Gary Pinch crashed home a loose ball following a free kick on 68 minutes.

Caersws, however, looked a threat and Venables made it 2-1 with a last gasp winner to hand Caersws all three points on offer.
