ARRIVA is improving the Northwich bus services to Moulton and Middlewich – but is axing another route.
The weekday buses to and from Gadbrook Park are being cut, despite opposition from companies on the Rudheath business estate.
Bill Parkinson, Arriva’s Winsford-based manager, told companies at a recent meeting the service attracted too few customers and there were other issues of congestion, parking and delayed running times.
A company spokesman told the Chronicle fewer than 20 people a day used the bus.
But Gadbrook Park spokeswoman Victoria Fifield, of surveyors Fifield Glynn, said businesses doubted the low passenger argument as it was based on figures 11 months old.
She said: “Businesses have confirmed more of their employees are using the service now.
“Arriva have stated they don’t wish to terminate the service, but the congestion coming on and off Gadbrook Park is having a knock-on effect.”
The businesses are considering a contracted bus services and have asked Cheshire County Council to help investigate how congestion and parking problems can be eased.
Meanwhile, Arriva is doubling the Monday to Friday daytime services served by 36 (Moulton) 36A and 36 B (Middlewich) services
The hourly 36 will be replaced by an extended service 37, which will serve Kingsmead and Mount Pleasant every half hour, while a revised service 31 will serve Moulton Village en route to Winsford and Crewe, also every half hour.
All the changes take effect from March 30.
