BURGLARS struck twice in two days at Wirral’s largest hospital.

Police have now appealed for information following the incidents at the Clatterbridge site of Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The first incident took place on Friday, September 21 between 8pm and 9am Saturday morning.

Burglars smashed windows of offices within the hospital, where they stole money from a charity box in a reception area.

The second offence took place the following day, Saturday September 22, between 1.15pm and 1.30pm.

This time police say the burglars entered a ward in the hospital via an unlocked door and attempted to gain access to further rooms without success.

Neighbourhood Inspector Kate Cunningham said: “I urge anyone who was in the area on Friday and Saturday to cast their minds back, did you see anyone acting suspiciously or hanging around the hospital grounds?

“If you have any information, please do report it. These are horrendous crimes, where offenders targeted a hospital damaged property and stole charity money.

“We are determined to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”

The trust confirmed it is currently helping police investigate the incidents.

Peter Davies, the hospital’s security advisor, said: “I would like to reassure our patients and the public that the hospital has a strong track record for maintaining security.

“We have a team of security staff on site around the clock and CCTV cameras are in operation in all ward and patient areas 24 hours a day.
