BRYMBO’S stunning North Wales League Premier Division form continued on Saturday as they made it five wins on the spin with an eight-wicket romp at a Mochdre side who had been beaten only once previously this season.

Stewart Williams (4-27), Nick Jones (3-25), David Lloyd (2-10) and Russell Penrhyn-Jones (1-24) shared the wickets as the hosts were skittled for 117 before rising star Lloyd (51no), Williams (34), captain Dafydd Rhys (18) and James Claybrook (11no) saw Brymbo to 118-2 and a 24-0 points bonanza which lifted them up to fifth.

Nick Flack and Andy Swarbrick shared an unbeaten partnership of 200 as Chirk cemented second spot in Division One by winning a high-scoring derby at Gresford.

Gresford, courtesy of Alex Ellwood (66), confidently declared on 220-6 only for skipper Flack (102no) and wicketkeeper Swarbrick (92no) to fire Chirk to 224-2.

Llay Welfare are hot on Chirk’s heels in third after their five-wicket victory at Brymbo 2nds, who, Phil Wilkinson (48) and Hugh Thomas (28) aside, had no answer to Dave Phennah (5-29) and Kris Salisbury (3-30) as they fell for 116 after a century from captain Dave Broderick (102) enabled Llay to declare on 204-5 (Joe Williams 2-40, John Pugh 2-48).

Marchwiel & Wrexham remain in the promotion picture following their one-wicket triumph at Llandudno 2nds, who declared on 177-9 (Anthony Morris 3-36, Luke Davies 2-26, David Ward 2-48) only for Marchwiel to respond with 180-9, a total made possible by Tim Newhouse’s 68.

Llangollen had to settle for a losing draw at fourth-placed Denbigh, who set 210-2dec before third-from-bottom Llan replied with 192-2, with Gareth Rigden cracking 85 and skipper Tom King 43no.

Bersham returned to the top of Division Two with 123-run home blast of Buckley.

Mattie Cross (6-24) and Gareth Evans (3-28) ripped Buckley apart for 61 following Bersham’s 184-7 (Nuan Amaroon 52, Mattie Cross 49no).

Marchwiel & Wrexham 2nds remained within seven points of the Division Three top two with a 65-run home success over off-form Castell Alun.

Despite Michael Arden’s (3-31) efforts, Michael Warrington (52), Paul Ankers (35), Chris Hemmings (30) and Syed Gulrez (25no) allowed Marchwiel to compile 180 before the likes of Salman Mohammed (3-24) and Paul Baines (2-18) halted Alun on 115 (Simon Brooman 27).

Gwersyllt Park 2nds’ rise up Division Four continued with a four-wicket win at rock-bottom Conwy 2nds.

Ian Pearson (54no) guided Gwersyllt to 128-6 after Conwy put on 127-5 (Lee Beer 3-22).

Llay Welfare 2nds are back in pole position in Division Five despite their shock home loss to Pwllheli 2nds.

The relegation-threatened seasiders laid down 174-7 (David Jones 3-34) and then stopped Llay six runs short on 168 (Daniel Parry 28, Richard Beale 27).

Gresford 2nds swept to a 10-wicket derby whitewash of Chirk 2nds, who were knocked over for just 41 before the fourth-placed visitors cruised to 45-0 (Steve Griffin 24no, James Williams 14no).

Third-placed Bersham 2nds went down on Sunday at Northop 3rds, who hit 218-9 (Bryan Walker 3-46, Danny Robertson 2-22, Jerry Wellans 2-38) and then held Bersham to 143-9 (Andy Evans 33).

Castell Alun 2nds stay third in Division Six following Saturday’s home hammering of Menai Bridge 3rds.

Bridge, at the hands of Jon Sutcliffe (3-10) and Phil Smith (3-18), collapsed for 58 before Alun reached 59-2 (Danny Wright 24, John Hughes 19no).

Llangollen 2nds won their basement battle with Bala 2nds, who were bowled out for 144 chasing 149-8.
