AN ENVIRONMENTAL website is hoping to give charities and community groups, who are in need of materials to complete building projects, a helping hand.

BuilderScrap.com, is a free to use service which allows builders to pass on surplus materials like over-ordered carpet, timber and office partitioning which could be recycled or re-used on other projects.

This stops unwanted materials from being thrown into skips, which end up in landfill.

Users of the site can upload details of items, either from their mobile phone or online, and these materials can then be passed on for free or at a cost – this choice is down to the individual user.

Les Owens, a former builder who set up the site, said: “As a builder I know we must throw away tonnes of good materials on every project as there isn’t always time to organise giving them to a good cause. The website will allow us to create an outlet for builders to, if they wish, give these materials to community projects free of charge. It often costs builders more to throw materials away, so they are sometimes happier to give them away and do something good for someone else.”

If you are a charity, community group or school in need of materials to complete a project, or a builder looking to give materials to a new home, contact Rebecca Owens at BuilderScrap on 07894 586550 to see if they can help.
