WINSFORD councillors are celebrating after Mar Properties, which manages the town’s shopping centre, promised to splash on brand new public toilets.
The lease on the current facilities, which have been closed since late January, will be transferred from Vale Royal Borough Council to Mar, and a state-of-the-art toilet block will be created in two vacant units inside the centre itself.
Winsford Town councillors recently collected a petition with more than 800 signatures demanding action over the lack of public conveniences in the town. And they declared themselves delighted after Mar agreed to fund the scheme at a of Vale Royal’s executive group at Wyvern House on Thursday night.
Town mayor Des Worthington said: “We’re very pleased with the outcome and the executive’s decision - it’s long overdue. We’re hoping the new facilities will be up and running by the end of the year.”
Cllr Don Beckett added: “On behalf of Winsford Town Council I’d like to thank everyone who signed the petition. I firmly believe this strong message from residents and shoppers in the town centre made the difference.”
The new toilets are expected to be completed by early December, subject to planning permission. All future maintenance will be met by Mar.
