MEMBERS of Little Stanney Women’s Institute are the latest to put unwanted bras in the Port Arcades’ cancer charity bra bin.

The gesture was great news for the Arcades whose target is to achieve a mile of bras – that’s 1,760 of them in total.

The bra collection has been in full swing since August and it’s not too late to get involved, the final date for donations being Friday, October 10.

The donated bras are to be exported to Third World countries where the price of one is more than that of a meal for a whole family.

Money per kilo of bras collected will be donated to the Linda McCartney Centre, a registered charity at the forefront of innovative care and treatment for those with breast cancer.

Patients from all over the North West travel there to receive some of the most advanced and pioneering treatments available in the UK today.

Port Arcades manager Les Lyon said: “The response has been phenomenal. We hoped that our customers would do all they could do to support this fantastic appeal, but I had no idea just how successful it would be.

“I’d like to thank each and every person who has made a donation – it is wonderful that so many of you have taken the time and effort to contribute – your generosity will make such a positive difference to two very worthwhile causes.”

The bright pink bra bank is situated between Max Spielman and Martin Dawes. Clean, wearable bras of any shape and size are greatly appreciated.
