A BOWLS shelter was proposed at a village bowling green.

The application was submitted by Burton and Puddington Village Sports and Social Club, The Village, Burton, Neston.

The green, located behind the Gladstone Village Hall, is adjacent to the boundary of the Burton Conservation Area.

The club told planning officers at Cheshire West and Chester Council the timber shelter would be set back enough to retain a small footpath for bowlers. It would have a bench inside.

No representations were raised as a result of consultations on the application.

The main issues, planners believed, were the effect on the green belt, the character of the area and the amenities of neighbours. The small shelter would have little effect on the openness of that part of the borough’s green belt, they felt.

It could be considered to be an essential small-scale facility for outdoor sports and recreation.

The shelter would be screened from the conservation area by hedging. Although it might be partly visible from nearby properties there would be no undue loss of privacy or overlooking.

The application was recommended for approval and the borough council agreed permission.
