A STRONG Wrexham squad heading to play Colwyn Bay this evening will not include young Liverpool goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis who has been lined up for a loan spell at the Racecourse.

Manager Dean Saunders has agreed the outline terms of a deal that will see the 18-year-old Australian compete this season with Chris Maxwell, but the finer details have yet to be resolved.

Saunders said: “The lad has agreed to join us, but I think his agent is going in to sort out a new contract with Liverpool and they want that to be out of the way first. So it’s simply a case of being patient.”

Saunders again plans to field a mix of youth and experience tonight, with the emphasis on another run-out for most of his senior players.

“One or two played against Prestatyn and we need to make sure that everyone gets some minutes under their belts,” he added. “It’s all about fitness at this stage of our preparations and that’s what we are concentrating on.”

Ashley Westwood will not be risked this evening as he is suffering from minor tendonitis and the Dragons boss said: “It is nothing serious but there is no point in taking a risk and aggravating the problem.

“We have another match pencilled in for Friday against The New Saints – probably at our training ground – and we have three games lined up next week, so there is plenty of time and opportunity for Ashley to get some game time in.”

By then, Saunders hopes to have further reshaped his squad for the coming campaign.

“It’s a work in progress but there could well be some ins and outs later in the week,” he added.
