CHILDREN from Weaverham were awarded certificates and a medal for reading skills.

About 70 children received their awards from Cllr Nora Dolphin for taking part in the scheme to foster a love of books.

Librarian Rachel Foster said: “The team read scheme is a national initiative to encourage children to keep up their reading throughout the summer.

“Each child can take home six library books and, if they read them during the summer, they’ve completed the task.

“It was called ‘team read’ because each session at the library was focused around sport and the Olympics. It was all about encouraging children to come to the library and it was very successful.”
