POLICE are hunting raiders responsible for two separate armed robberies on betting shops in Ellesmere Port.
During both raids, which are not connected, the thieves escaped with cash.
At 7.15pm on Saturday, a man believed to be in his early 20s entered Manny Cook bookmakers in Milton Road and threatened two female staff with what is believed to have been a firearm.
They were both left shaken and upset but were not injured.
The gunman is described as white, of slim build, 5ft 7ins tall, with short brown hair and was wearing a green baseball cap, which covered his face, a dark T-shirt and dark blue jeans.
He fled the scene on foot, turning left outside. Police suspect he may be local.
Detective Constable Steve Owens said: “Incidents like this are rare. A firearm was not discharged and I certainly wouldn’t want anyone to panic.
“At the same time the two members of staff were left frightened as they were threatened and intimidated.”
At 8.40pm last Wednesday, three men armed with an axe and a machete raided David Pluck bookmakers in Rossmore Road West.
One of them stood at the front of the shop while the other two tried to smash the security glass at the counter before climbing over it and later fleeing on foot towards the A41.
A member of staff and a customer were inside the bookmakers at the time of the raid but were not injured.
The first man is described as slim. He was wearing dark clothing, black shoes, gloves and a balaclava and carrying a dark rucksack and an axe.
The second man was of slim build, wearing dark trousers and a black hooded top with stripes on the arms, which he had pulled over his head.
The third offender was wearing a blue hooded top, black trousers and balaclava, dark shoes and was carrying a large machete.
