THE body of missing Brymbo cyclist Ian Minards has been discovered in woodland, more than a year after he disappeared.

Forestry workers harvesting trees near the Brenig Reservoir in Corwen found his body in Llyn Brenig woods on Saturday, September 22, 10 days after the anniversary of his disappearance.

His body was discovered with a man's bicycle nearby.

He had disappeared after leaving his Pen y Graig home on September 12, 2004. He told his wife he would be cycling to Denbigh Moors.

When he left he was wearing a black top, black leggings, a blue waterproof coat and cycling shoes.

Despite an extensive police search of the moors and the Nant y Garth Pass, no trace of him was found.

A nationwide appeal resulted in reported sightings across the country, including some in Scotland, where Mr Minards loved to cycle.

However, it seems he was either on the way to the moors or on his return from them when tragedy struck.

There were also fears his disappearance may have been linked to depression he had suffered that summer.

Mr Minards was super-fit and a keen cyclist, often riding to visit his sister in Cornwall.

He worked for Staffords Coaches in Coedpoeth as a coach driver.

He also had family in Bootle and Wirral and had been married to his French wife Isabelle for 10 years.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned by North East Wales Coroner John Hughes but, due to the condition of the body, no obvious cause of death was apparent.
