A FOUNDER member of the group of enthusiasts who created Ellesmere Port’s boat museum has been made an MBE for her services to heritage.

Boat Museum Society president Diana ‘Di’ Margaret Skilbeck, 70, was named an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for her services to heritage.

Mrs Skilbeck, of Arkwood Close, Bebington, has been active at the museum since it began life in the 1970s as the North West Museum of Inland Navigation, later The Boat Museum.

Volunteer group The Boat Museum Society comprised a group of enthusiasts passionate about preserving a vanishing way of life and set about gathering large collections of boats and other items such as traditional clothing, painted canalware and tools together.
