A Cheshire Oaks attraction has praised the ‘outstanding’ efforts of Ellesmere Port Town Ladies FC after a challenging season.
Wildlife attraction Blue Planet Aquarium was the team’s main sponsor for 2015-2016.
They say they are proud to have been represented by the players throughout the year.
The aquarium agreed to sponsor the major sporting team as part of their ongoing commitment to work with and support the local community.
Marketing manager Phil Jones at the Blue Planet Aquarium said:
“We are extremely proud of the team’s outstanding efforts over the season and delighted to have been involved with the club.
“Port did not have it all their own way this year and had to cope with a number of setbacks including injuries, loss of players and a hugely frustrating backlog of fixtures which saw several key matches having to be cancelled.
“However what has been truly inspiring is the way they have dealt with all this adversity and fought back. That is the characteristic of a true team and I am sure it will stand them in good stead for next season.”
He added; “We’d like to thank them all for helping to spread the aquarium’s name far and wide this year and also for representing us so well.”
In the end the team finished a creditable fourth in the North West Women’s Regional League.
The players are now taking a well-earned rest until pre-season training starts up again in July.
Ellesmere Port Town Ladies FC manager, Nigel Basnett, said: “I would like to thank Blue Planet Aquarium on behalf of myself and the rest of the team for their continued support throughout the entire season.”
Blue Planet signed up last autumn and promised to keep a close eye on the team’s progress.
