A FIVE-YEAR-OLD scooped a double birthday treat after winning a charity balloon race.Š

Ellesmere Port schoolgirl Megan MacAuley’s high-flying balloon travelled an incredible 310 miles to Kent – and her luck didn’t end there.

When she collected her prize of an all-expenses paid family day-out at the Coliseum Leisure Park, she got lucky again, winning a colouring competition and tickets to the Disney Live show in Liverpool.Š

Mum Melanie, 31, said: “She just can’t stop winning.”

Staff at Vue Cinema helped sell hundreds of £1 race cards for the charity balloon release at the Coliseum Leisure Park at Cheshire Oaks. The owner of the card that travelled the furthest won the day out.

Melanie’s balloon was found in a field in Biddenden, Kent, a whopping 310 miles from the leisure park, and just in time to give Megan a birthday treat to remember.

Melanie said: “I was made up when I heard Megan had won the balloon race. Megan’s birthday was a couple of weeks ago so winning the day out at Coliseum Leisure Park came in really handy.”

First prize in the balloon race, held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Coliseum Leisure Park, was a family meal at Frankie & Benny’s and a family trip to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D at Vue Cheshire Oaks.

Melanie added: “When we went for the meal, Megan entered a colouring competition at Frankie and Benny’s and won tickets to go and see Disney Live! at the Liverpool Echo Arena.”

More than £430 was raised from the leisure park balloon race and donated to Claire House Children’s Hospice, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary year.Š
