GENEROUS villagers have raised a staggering £35,000 for Nightingale House hospice over the past decade.

The latest event organised by the charity's Leeswood support group was a St David's Day coffee morning which helped to boost the coffers by almost £350.

Entertainment was provided by pupils of Ysgol Derwenfa.

The proceeds pushed the total handed over on the day to the hospice's community fundraiser Menai Owen-Jones to £1,000.

Lucille Ingman, chairwoman of the Flintshire village's support group, said: 'We have been fundraising for the hospice for 10 years and to date we have raised £35,000 for Nightingale House. On behalf of the group I would like to thank the people of Leeswood and surrounding area for their continued support.'

Menai said: 'We are grateful to the members of Leeswood support group for all of their fundraising efforts over the past decade. Every year it costs £1.6m to run the hospice and the support of Leeswood support group makes such a difference.'
