A HOUSING development with up to 80 properties could be built on vacant land in Ways Green, Winsford.

The town’s planning sub- committee met last night to discuss an outlined proposal from Rhyl-based firm Anwyl Construction Company.

Anwyl wants to submit a planning application for a development on seven acres of vacant land at the back of the Conservative Club, and is required to undertake a pre- application consultation exercise.

The firm has written to Wins- ford Town Council to outline the basic details of the application, to set out a brief ‘justification’ as to why permission should be granted and to ask for the council’s views.

A company spokesman said the site “has a capacity for 80 dwellings” and says the develop- ment would be sustainable because of the location’s proximity to the town centre and local amenities.

“Satisfactory vehicular access will be from Ways Green involving clearance of only one existing property,” he said.

“Separate and additional emergency and pedestrian access can also be provided.”

Anwyl is currently developing a housing estate for 23 dwellings in River View, Ways Green, which adjoins the seven-acre site it wants to build on.

The spokesman said: “The site is within the Local Plan develop- ment limits and was previously allocated for housing.

“It is feasible, suitable and deliverable and could contribute significantly and quickly to the housing land shortage, including a significant number of affordable houses.

“Anwyl would ask the town council to look favourably on this proposal and respond accordingly.”

Six town councillors met to discuss the proposal last night.
