SPORTY pupils of Neston High School enjoyed a reading and writing workshop with a best-selling author.

Dan Freedman, who wrote the Jamie Johnson series of soccer novels, visited the Year 7, 8 and 9 football teams to talk about his experiences.

Dan discussed his journey from hating reading as a child to becoming a sports journalist and touring with the English team during the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, as part of his role as editor for the FA website.

He spoke about his successful book series and showed clips of his interviews with the England team.

Suzie Evans from the school said all the boys ‘thoroughly enjoyed’ themselves.

“It was a very inspiring and engaging reading and writing workshop, a fantastic day and the boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves,” she said.

“One boy said Dan was so interesting he could have sat and listened to him all day!”
