A WOMAN who attacked her former partner with a baseball bat has escaped a jail sentence.

Linda Edwards, of Cross Street, Southsea, admitted assaulting her former partner, Russell Hughes, damaging his car to the tune of £1,200 and making a threat to kill a woman, Linda Jane Jones.

The court heard the incident occurred when Edwards, 35, went around to Mr Hughes' house on January 9 and found him there with another woman. It was feared at first Hughes suffered a fractured neck in the attack, but fortunately this proved not to be the case.

Edwards, a woman of good character, was placed on a two- year community rehabilitation order by Judge John Rogers QC, sitting at Mold Crown Court.

'You know these are serious offences,' he told her.

'You caused extensive damage to the car and it was a prolonged attack on Mr Hughes with a baseball bat. Fortunately there were no lasting injuries.'

The judge said he counted in her favour her immediate guilty plea, and the facts she had no previous convictions and was the mother of young children.
