Barrow Horticultural Society Rose Show held in Barrow Village hall was a great success with the room filled with roses, pot plants and herbaceous flowers.

There were more than 100 entries from 23 exhibitors in the 28 classes. The Floral Art classes were of a high standard and the children’s 'Colourful Garden' paintings were much admired.

It was encouraging to have so many entries from the school.

The judges commented on the excellent standard of the entries. There were many visitors during the afternoon and it was encouraging to see so many younger people enjoying the show and staying on for the auction of produce – as usual Fred Livesey was the very persuasive auctioneer.

The Society’s President, Barbara Huddleston, very kindly presented the trophies to the winners.

The judges were:- Roses and Flowers - Rachael Jones; Floral Art - Sharon Nolan; Children’s Classes - Madeleine Maddox.

Trophy winners were:-

Chris Jones Memorial Trophy for best exhibit of 6 HT Roses – Barbara Pym

Cyril Bratt Trophy for most points in Rose Classes – David Crossley
