THE owner of a Northwich bar outside which a 55-year-old man was assaulted with a spade has accepted an official police caution for affray.

John Bates, 41, of Priory Avenue, Northwich, the proprietor of Madisons on High Street, was arrested after RAOB Club steward Frank Pemberton was attacked in the early hours of April 25.

He answered his bail on Saturday and accepted the offer of a police caution for affray rather than take the matter before a court.

Madisons has been shut since the incident, and police may ask for the bar and eaterie to have its licence permanently revoked when a review is held by councillors at the end of the month.
