A DAD who lost control of his van because he was sipping on a soft drink has been banned from driving for six months.

John Barton, 23, of Nixon Drive, Winsford, appeared at Vale Royal Magistrates Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to four offences, including failing to control his vehicle.

He also admitted driving on a provisional licence and driving a vehicle without insurance or a valid MOT certificate.

He was also fined a total of £380.

Barton was spotted by police officers leaving a roundabout and heading along High Street, Winsford towards the town centre.

Catherine Whincup, prosecuting, said he swerved from the inside to the outside lane, cutting across traffic.

Barton was driving on a provisional licence after being banned in July 2006
